BRONZEVILLE
Dating back to the early 20th century, Bronzeville was known as the “Black Metropolis,” a area rich in its historical significance of African-American history. The population in the area increased as thousands of African-Americans migrated from the South in search of a better life and jobs. Today, the neighborhood is home to the DuSable Museum of African-American History, the tomb of Senator Stephen A. Douglas, and the South Side Community Art Center. Currently, Bronzeville is undergoing a cultural renaissance as buildings dating back to the early 20’s are being renovated and revitalized. The neighborhood is home to the renowned Illinois Institute of Technology and is in close proximity to the University of Chicago, making it increasingly popular with college students. It is easily accessible through both the Red and Green Line trains. Bronzeville is home to a plethora of historical landmarks and still remains as a town of wonderful architecture.
