STREETERVILLE

Steeterville is said to have been founded by Joseph Streeter when his boat went shipwrecked off of Lake Michigan. In fact, the land that he embarked on was being used as a 150 acre landfill. Legend has it that the city tried to get rid of him and after several gunfights ensued, he was finally captured and arrested. Now Streeterville is anything but like an old Western shootout. Streeterville is a major tourist attraction with sights like The Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. The area is packed with high-rise rentals, mid-rise condominiums, and co-ops. Streeterville is situated from Michigan Avenue east to Lake Michigan and the river north to Oak Street and Lake Shore Drive. It is accessible through the Red Line train and several CTA buses stop throughout the neighborhood making it easy to visit or commute to work.
